Saving money on makeup is easy. Ever buy the wrong makeup or beauty product and feel like you are wasting a ton of money on beauty products? Well looking good doesn’t have to cost a fortune. I just made my semi-annual makeup and beauty product haul so I thought I would share my money tips and tricks to saving money on makeup.
Buy at the Right Time = Free Stuff
- Gift with purchase
- Bonus packages
Stock up during bonus or gift with purchase specials. Estee Lauder for example is currently in “gift” at Macy’s until 3/18. Make a $35 purchase and receive a make up kit or cleanser kit for free. Get a second bonus gift when you spend $70, (full size eye makeup remover and mascara). You can also easily find bonus items at Ulta or Sephora. Look closely or ask a sales clerk which brands are currently offering bonus products.
Buy at the Right Place = 100% Risk Free
- Know the return policy
- Save your receipt and packaging
If you don’t like the product you purchased take it back and get a full refund. It’s easy, just save your receipt, the packaging and return the product within store policy guidelines. Almost all stores offer this service: Rite Aid, Ulta, Sephora, etc. (I keep a special shoe box with receipts, tags and containers in my closet)
Good to the Last Drop = Lasts Longer
- Cut open empty package
- Scrape out contents
- Store in small travel or beauty counter containers (cosmetic counters often offer 10 day supplies of product in small containers for free, you just have to ask)
Even when it looks and feels like the makeup or beauty container is empty there is usually several uses left. This stuff is not cheap so make it last until the last drop. Use scissors to cut open the container, scrape out the remaining product and store in small travel or beauty counter containers.

- Return to makeup counter
This is really cool. A couple of companies offer a recycling program, like Mac. Save your empty Mac containers and when you have six take them to the Mac counter and get a free lipstick of your choice.
